Announcements

We celebrated another Paul Harris Fellow milestone for Chris Knapp.

A reminder next week's meeting is at 6:30 in the evening at the Kirkwood Room.  Bring $25 per person and BYOB.  The light meal is being catered by Val Martin.  We will be honoring the recipients of our community grants for 2016. We will be passing the hat at that meeting to help supplement the cash presentation to NAMI as a misunderstanding on the part of the grants selection committee led to a substantial under-funding of their project need.

Students from City High Interact talked about the Dance for Humanity which will be from 6 to 9 pm at City High Cafeteria.  Tickets for adults are $10 each. All proceeds benefit Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity.  See Nancy Pacha for tickets.

Brad Langguth gave a brief report on the successful IA MOST trip to Huehuetanango, Honduras.  There were 42 people on this medical mission and 65 people were screened.  There were 25 surgeries and many more had tooth extractions and other dental work.  The cost of an IA MOST trip is about $50,000.  To date Herb Wilson has been a major benefactor, but there are also other fundraising activities such as a benefit for IA MOST that will take place on Sunday, March 6 at West High Auditorium.

Reserve your spot at the District 6000 Annual Conference from March 31-April 2 in Des Moines.  At the Saturday night event a quilt that Deb Ockenfels has completed will be auctioned off and proceeds will go to IA MOST.

Nan Johnson collected books for the Shelter House book sale which will take place March 5-6 at the former TM-One building near Waterfront Hy-Vee from 10 to 4 on Saturday and noon to 4 on the second day.

Peggy Doerge encouraged everyone to come out for the East Side Hy-Vee wine and beer tasting from 5-7 pm to benefit the Iowa City Public Library.  Take the opportunity to buy your B for the BYOB on Feb 23.

Our duty roster needs more sign-ups.  Be sure to check the list as you come in to each meeting.

Speaker

Steve Beck has been CEO of Santos Human, Inc. since 2014 after leaving a 27 year career at the University of Iowa College of Engineering in the area of computer aided design.

Computer aided design for optimal human use of a large variety of products has saved many billions of dollars in making of test models in many industries.  Santos only works on the interface between humans and various designs and has clients that range from the US Department of Defense to P&G to Ford Motors.  With most design work 90% of the cost takes place the moment you prototype in metal and so it is a huge savings to do all this modeling via virtual reality and computer aided design.
