Eric Nurnburg  Deputy Fire Chief,Program chair for September was our speaker.
His topic was "Overview of the Iowa City Fire Department".  Eric spoke on the history of the fire department and many statistics about fire calls.
 
President Seaba called the meeting to order at 7:05 am. Phil Peterson anniversary with the club 20 years.  Casey Cook is running for City Council. 
President Seaba had the honor on inducting Lori and Mark Stanley.  Lori is a retired art teacher and Mark is a retired Navy doctor.  Peggy Doerge was their sponsor and gave the Rotary pin to Lori and Mark.  Kate Sojka is the membership chair and presented their certificate and packet of information.  Phil Peterson is their mentor.
Carl Christensen fell and broke his hip.
Eric Nurmburg, Deputy Fire Chief gave us a history of the department. 1842 the fire department began,1861formation of more companies, 1872 1st hook and ladder, 1912 hired 3 full time fireman who worked 6 24 hour shifts per week , 1971-72  3 stations, 51 members, 400 fires per year. There will be a 5th fire station built in the Terry True Blood Area.  The Fire department has many duties to include:  Emergency medical services, Hazmat, Rescue team.  In 2006 there were 3684 fires, 2018 there were 7022 fires.
The goal of the Fire Department needs diversity:  Every kids, friendship and mentoring children.
